Whether you visit a local library or museum, attend a cultural or athletic event like the Olds Fair, or participate in a conservation project, lottery fund dollars are often at work behind the scenes.

Kids of all ages love the family fun events and activities held at the Olds fairgrounds, whether 4-H shows, livestock sales, displays or demonstrations.

Special Events

For 110 years, the Olds Agricultural Society hosted Central Alberta's largest livestock show and was one of the only truly agricultural fairs left in Alberta. The elimination of the Olds Fair & Rodeo following the 2009 edition, has created new opportunities for the organization, and opened up a huge array of ideas from our volunteers. As a result, it has brought forward the creation of several new events, events ranging from livestock shows to tractor pulls, favourites like chuckwagon races, and traditional events showcasing the cultural element in the province.

A Little History

The Olds Fair & Rodeo entertained crowds for 110 years, starting with the first Bench Show held on the platform of the CPR railway station in 1894. We were proud to be able to continue the celebration of the fruits of our agricultural labours and provide entertainment for thousands each summer.

The Olds Fair & Rodeo, one of the top nine Major Fairs in Alberta, was a fitting showcase for the fruits of agriculture in Mountain View County, and indeed the entire province. In fact, it was the largest livestock show on the summer circuit!

The decision to cancel the fair in Olds did not come lightly, and it was with a bit of apprehension when the Board of Directors came to this conclusion in the fall of 2009.

However, with change comes adventure and opportunity. As event planners, we are continually exploring approaches which will provide additional marketing opportunities, increased exhibitor exposure and a gathering place for commerce. We are very excited to have this new road to travel in 2010, and look forward to seeing you at our new events this year.
