Summer Synergy, July 11 - 18, 2010

Olds Agricultural Society and Calgary Stampede are committed to provide a collaborative venue to showcase youth in agriculture by combining traditional elements with innovative approaches for personal achievement and development. This will increase inter-breed interaction, avoid duplication, improve financial sustainability, engage the public and enhance the profile of rural lifestyle and primary production. This new youth livestock program is known as Summer Synergy!

Things to Remember

For all those interested in participating at Summer Synergy here are a few important things to remember:
- OAS will accept late arrivals from the Lloyd Steer Show but please let us know you are coming to allow for space;
- Youth Steer Classic exhibitors have the option to stall steers at Summer Synergy with processing on Thursday and Stampede move-in Saturday morning;
- There will be BOTH purebred and commercial female champions from each breed show qualifying for an overall Supreme Purebred & Supreme Commercial at Stampede;
- Tie-outs are available and nurse cow pens can be pre-arranged;
- Any youth not entered with Angus, Charolais, Gelbvieh, Hereford or Simmental can enter with OAS in the AOB class to assure everyone has full participation opportunity;
- Each breed show still has traditional qualifiers for NYC, Western Canadian Show Team Judging and UFA Supreme Quest;
- Marketing topics for Peewee & Junior, Intermediate and Senior will be posted the week after the late deadline;
- Camping is available at OAS with no or limited services; O.R. Hedges fully serviced campground adjacent to OAS operated by Olds Lions Club 403.556.2299;

2010 Rules & Regulations

- Align with Calgary Stampede
- Align with Olds Agricultural Society
- Creation of general Summer Synergy Rules & Regulations
- Ages: Ages can be aligned with individual partners as it pertains to their respective rules and regulations. Summer Synergy awards are aligned with ages including the following: Junior 9-11, Intermediate 12-14, Senior 15-20 as of January 1st.
- Entries: A $50.00 Summer Synergy entry fee will be required for full participation and recognition of special awards and scholarships. This entry is due upon receipt of regular entries. Entry Deadlines are as follows:
- Early: June 4th, 2010 - $50.00
- Late: June 18th, 2010 - $75.00
- Olds Agricultural Society will support and manage the “All Other Breeds” component to allow all Breed Associations who are not monetary contributing partners to Summer Synergy based on total number of head.
- Ownership: All entries eligible for Summer Synergy Supreme Champion declaration must be owned by the exhibitor/family farm effective at time of entry.
- Parent Participation:
- Parent participation is not allowed with the exception of exhibitor or public safety. If assistance is necessary, show committee would be able to assist or find a suitable resource.
- Aerosol/Paint Free Zone: All exhibitors must abide by an identified “Ringside” Aerosol & Paint free zone.
- Summer Synergy Jackpot Female Show: This class will be open to all females whom have been entered in their respective breed shows or AOB class. Entries will be taken at program registration. Purebred and commercial females will be shown by all breeds with classes split by age showing youngest to oldest. Champion and Reserve will receive entry monies split 60/40 and special edition collector prizes.
- Olds Agricultural Society General:
- OAS will not be responsible for damage, injury, loss or theft of or to any exhibit, irrespective of the cause of such damage, injury, loss or theft. This shall indemnify OAS against all legal or other proceedings in regard thereto.
- An exhibitor shall, if required, by the Livestock Committee, make a statutory declaration that the livestock exhibited are exhibited in accordance with and in all respects comply with the rules and regulations of the OAS. In case any exhibitor refuses to make such declaration, all premiums awarded him shall be forfeited and all such livestock shall be removed forthwith is so ordered by the Committee.
- OAS reserves the right to remove from the grounds, animals that may be deemed unsuitable or objectionable, without assigning any reason. If any exhibit has obtained admission through misrepresentation the exhibitor will forfeit any money paid for the unexpired term for space or stalls and OAS shall be exonerated from any claim on the part of the exhibitors.
- Any exhibitor lodging a protest must make it in writing. It must de delivered to the Livestock Office on the day of the show and receipt must be obtained. A protest must state plainly the cause of complaint or appeal and must be accompanied by a deposit of $100.00 which shall be forfeited to OAS if the said protest is not sustained. OAS shall also have the power to interpret the rule and make new rules if the printed rules do not cover any dispute or point.
- All exhibitors must abide by an identified “Ringside” Aerosol & Paint free zone.
- OAS reserves the right to decide any point not covered by the rules.
- Each exhibit must have a CCIA tag upon arrival or will be excused.
- Calgary Stampede General:
- Special attention is called to the Calgary Stampede General Rules and Conditions.
- Exhibitors are responsible to carry their own liability insurance (see Liability under General Rules).
- Only exhibitors will be allowed to groom/prepare the entries participating in the show.
- Exhibitors may be excused from competition before or during the 2010 program, or suspended from future involvement based on inappropriate behavior as determined by the Calgary Stampede International Youth Livestock Committee and show officials.
The Youth Livestock Committee reserves the right to decide on any point not covered by any of the regulations.
