Whether you visit a local library or museum, attend a cultural or athletic event like the Olds Fair, or participate in a conservation project, lottery fund dollars are often at work behind the scenes.

Rope for the Cure
Celebrating the "Rope for the Cure" Team Roping fundraiser held June 4th & 5th at OAS. Presentation of $3,500 cheque.

Other Events at the Fairgrounds

Throughout the year, Olds Agricultural Society works together with other organizations in the community to host some very popular events. In 2007, the Olds Agricultural Society facilities hosted over 45,000 participants; in 2008, that number had climbed to 56,178! Check out just a few of our special events here:

  • OAS-sponsored events such as the Spring Classic Steer & Heifer Show, and Chautauqua
  • Farmers Market from May to September, and Christmas Markets in November and December
  • Concerts at the grandstand, such as Nazareth, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, April Wine, and Trooper!
  • RCMP Musical Ride
  • MJ Farms Hunter Jumper Show in August
  • Various horse shows such as Warmblood Breeders Show, Western Regional Horse Futurity, Wild Rose Miniature Horse Show, Alberta Appaloosa Horse Show, Calgary Arabian Show, and Reining Alberta's Fall Classic
  • 4-H activities for clubs such as Ropes & Reins, Prairie Partners, Bowden Light Horse Kids, Thundering Hoof Beats, Noble Riders, Silver Stirrups, and Silver Sage Riders
  • Regional and Provincial 4-H programs such as Regional Judging, Horse Classic, and Leadership Training
  • Training and meeting places for local clubs such as Eagle Hill Dog Obedience, Mountain View Special Riders, and the Olds College Gallop School
  • Team Roping Canada Championships, Cutting Horse Championships, Vaulting competitions, Team Cattle Penning competitions
  • Cattle sales and shows
  • Horse auctions and clinics, Simply Unique Auctions, Odd & Unusual sales
  • Santa Claus Parade of Lights held during Olds Fashioned Christmas at the end of November.

Hundreds of motorcyclists revved their engines kicking off Alberta’s Ride for Sight in June 2009. It was the 27th annual motorcycle parade to support the foundation fighting blindness from Deerfoot Mall to the Olds Fairgrounds.
